Critique:

  • This proposal does not reflect the experience in other states where consolidation has not led to lower costs or better education
(see the Rural Education and Community Trust, study of West Virginia, www.ruraledu.org).

  • This proposal does not recognize the role of state agencies that continue to enact burdensome administrative regulations.

Make Your Proposals Known: Let the Governor, Commissioner,
and all your legislators know that you want them to consider other approaches that are more likely to encourage schools and districts to use their funds frugally in the pursuit of improved education for Maine’s children.
